Tamiya TRF420X 1/10th competition chassis

Tamiya have introduced the TRF420X, their latest competition 1/10th touring chassis. The big change for the X is that the spur gear has now been moved in front of the motor, the motor position staying where it was, resulting in a more balanced and stable car. A focus for this latest iteration was chassis flex, the car comes standard with 2.25mm carbon fibre and 2mm aluminium chassis plates, and further fine-tuning of the setup can be achieved with different combinations and numbers of upper deck screws. The suspension and majority of the drivetrain are carried over from its predecessor.

The new Accelerator LP was designed with speed in mind. Decreasing the overall diameter from 3.25” to 2.95” allows you to slam the front of your body and cut through the air easier than ever before.

This was the first national competition for the section since before the pandemic so was well anticipated. There has been a change to the format of the series with the LMP12 and GT Circuit sections combining forces and offering a GT12 class and a 13.5 stock LMP12 class. The championship is being held over 6 rounds with 4 counting rounds. The Eastbourne club laid out a large track at their Robertsbridge facility using the excellent carpet used at the 2020 World Championships. On first impressions the track layout looked quite intimidating but was actually a fast and flowing track that would test the skills of all the drivers.
