Rd8 of UK 1/8th Nats

The 8th round of the BRCA 1/8th scale National Championship was held last weekend on the Mendip track in the West of England. In qualifying it was Serpent driver Mark Green that claimed the TQ spot for the final ahead of Pete Hastings in 2nd and Tim Wood in 3rd. In the Final it was Mark that led from start to finish but behind him it was a close battle for 2nd place with every driver having a shot at a podium. After a little tangle down the grid on the 1st lap, Andy North and round 7 winner Neil Diver had to spend the race recovering and fighting their way back through the field. Richard Hicklin, Pete Hastings, Gareth Bell and Chris Heath were very closely matched over the first 10 mins until Hicklin had engine trouble which dropped him down the order followed by Hastings who was suffering with belt issues. Mugen racer Andy North had the misfortune to run out of fuel on numerous occasions which also ruined his chanced. At the 30 minutes, it was Mark Green with the win by over 3 laps ahead of Gareth Bell, who claimed the 2nd spot after Diver ran out of fuel near the end, this also promoted Christopher Heath up into 3rd.

Guschl wins German 1/8th TT Nat Rd1

Last weekend saw the first round of the German National Championship for 1/8th scale buggies held at the Schietschmieter track in Bistensee. The event attracted the cream of the German off road scene and in qualifying it was Daniel Reckward that claimed the top qualifier spot ahead of Patrick Feschtschenko in 2nd and Andreas Bartels in 3rd. The Semi finals over and it was Sönke Matz that would start the final from pole position with Andreas Bartels starting from 2nd and Reckward from 3rd. With the race underway it was Bartels who was the first retirement before 10 minutes with pole man Matz retiring from the race after 20 minutes with differential problems. Reckward also had troubles with his engine which dropped him out of contention which all allowed Phillip Guschl to take the win ahead of Patrick Feschtschenko in 2nd and Dario Vita rounding out the podium in 3rd.

Dutch manufacturer Corally have released some new items today, the first being this 3.2mm turnbuckle wrench shown above which does exactly what its meant to do and is suitable for the new turnbuckles we showed you back in July. The other item from Corally are these RDX Phi coupler clamp aluminium spacers that are available in two different thickness (0.5mm and 1mm) and which allow finer roll-centre tuning.

Atsushi Hara wins KMRCA Nationals

Last weekend saw the Korean Electric touring car Nationals run at the tight and twisty GF Raceway track and the event attracted some International drivers who joined the large amount of locals to battle for the National title. In the Modified class qualifying, it was former World Champion and Hot Bodies racer Atsushi Hara from Japan that took the top qualifying spot ahead of Serpent S400 pairing of Nam Sangjoon and Dutch racer Niels Koenekoop in 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the race it was again Hara that proved his top billing by easily taking the event win ahead of Koenekoop in 2nd, who managed to leap frog his team mate Nam who finished in 3rd giving the new S400 its first International podium result.

Nougier wins Euro 40+, Beal 235mm

Eric Nougier wins Euro 40+ title

This weekend has seen the European 1/8th scale Championships for drivers aged 40 and over, run at the AMC Hildesheim track in Germany, alongside the European 1/10th 235mm Championship. In the 1/8th scale class qualifying it was French Kyosho driver Eric Nougier that took the pole position from Serpent driver Karl Heinz Meister in 2nd, while in the 235mm class it was Belgian racer Eric D’hondt that claimed the top qualifying spot ahead of current European title holder Alain Levy in 2nd. The 1/8th scale race saw an easy win for the French driver, after Meister claimed the lead after 10 minutes and then immediately went out with a rear belt failure allowing Nougier back in front and able to pull out a 2 lap cushion ahead of eventual 2nd placed finisher Christoph Pietsch with Austrian driver Peter Grandinger claiming 3rd spot at the end of the 45 minute race. In the 235mm final a problem for pole man D’hondt saw him sidelined after only 7 minutes which made it easier for Glyn Beal from the UK to work his way to the front where he eventually finished, despite the German racer Jens Stark in 2nd keeping him honest for the entire race, local driver Thomas Plöger rounded out the podium in 3rd.

Richard Keur wins Rd4 of Dutch 200mm Nationals

Rd4 of Dutch 200mm Nationals

This weekend saw the 4th round of the Dutch 200mm Nationals take place at the world famous MACH track in Heemstede, just outside Amsterdam. The weather was sunny and dry and the event was open to the main NK class, as well as the 200mm Nomac class and the Promo class for 1/8th scale. In qualifying it was European Championship runner up Jilles Groskamp, racing for Xray, that took the pole position by a huge 6 seconds ahead of 2nd placed Remy Moller racing for Serpent while 3rd qualifier was Kyosho racer Daan Jacobs and 4th spot, and final direct qualifer, went to championship leader Maarten van Lierop. In the race it was Mugen driver Richard Keur, who drove a steady race from 5th on the grid to take the win, after Groskamp had some engine troubles that dropped him down the order to an eventual 6th. Daan Jacobs worked his way up 2nd spot by the finish, followed 1 lap further back by Van Lierop who has secured his championship lead even further with a solid 3rd position.
