Ben Cosgrove wins Handy Models Grand Prix

Ben Cosgrove has won the Handy Models Grand Prix run by the Cotswold Model Car Club, leading home an Xray NT1 1-2-3. Competing for the first time as a team the 3 UK Xray NT1 team drivers, Ben Cosgrove, Mark Gilliland and Robin Hammet, had to cope with tricky damp conditions on the Sunday of the event but a quick run in the dry Saturday qualifying gave Cosgrove the pole position which couldn’t be bettered on the final 2 damp qualifying runs on Sunday. Javier Hidalgo wins Rd1 of Spanish 200mm Nationals

Today saw the running of the 1st round of the Spanish National championships for 200mm held in Gijon. The race was won by 3rd placed qualifier Javier Hidalgo, driving a Serpent 720, who managed to pull out a lap on Kyosho racer Luis Cayetano who finished 2nd while a lap further back in 3rd place was Jose Casas who gained the final podium spot driving a Serpent 710. Marc Kreisig wins Kyosho on-road Masters, Austria

Marc Kreisig has shown he was the class of the field at last weekends Kyosho on road Masters held in Wiener Neustadt near Vienna, Austria. The Kyosho racer managed to win the aggregated finals to take the overall win and was followed home by Xray NT1 racer, and race TQ, Manuel Huber who finished 2nd. In third was the NT1 designer and Xray owner Juraj Hudy who had a very good result despite the tough competition and a few problems in the race itself. Xray on their NT1 debut

Although we already covered the Winternats I thought it was interesting to get an insight on how the Xray team felt they had performed, considering the hype surrounding the event and the debut of their new 200mm racer, the NT1. While the car definitely performed, it suffered from some off track problems when it mattered most such as poor pit stops as well as the problem that got Jilles Groskamp disqualified after the B-main, but they showed some good speed in the A-main but suffered major tyre wear problems as the track conditions on the finals day changed. 2007 Winternats, Florida – Friday Day 6

The big story of the day however was in the 1/10th 200mm class were the unfortunate Jilles Groskamp, who we told you was disqualified for being under weight after setting the 3rd fastest time in qualifying, managed to move up from his H-main position to win 5 finals in a row (completing over 500 laps) and will take his position in Saturdays C-main.
