Serpent SRX8 Gen4 1:8 Nitro Buggy

Serpent has announced the release of their new SRX8 Gen4 1:8 Nitro Buggy.  Designed by Billy Easton, the Gen4 introduces a newly designed chassis and side pods which by reducing the overall width of the platform lowers the total vehicle weight, while creating a more compact and centralised layout.  This approach results in a near-perfect left-to-right balance, improving consistency and predictability of the vehicle during demanding race conditions.  Serpent say the narrower profile contributes to improved agility and responsiveness on the track, allowing the vehicle to feel more nimble and precise during high-speed cornering and direction changes.   A major engineering advancement of the Serpent SRX8 Gen4 is the completely redesigned centre differential assembly. This new system was developed to address several key areas including serviceability, Differential performance, overall weight distribution, and braking feel. Based on feedback from racers using the previous SRX8 Pro platform, the development team focused on simplifying maintenance while improving the overall functionality and efficiency of the drive-train.  With the Gen4 Serpent introduces the new Geo-Matrix Suspension Geometry System — a precision insert platform designed to deliver unmatched setup flexibility and repeatability.  An all-new suspension bracket platform is designed to deliver reduced weight, increase durability and unmatched setup precision.  Completely redesigned from the ground up, the new brackets feature, 7075-T6 lightweight design and are finished in durable black anodising with distinctive machined silver edges for a premium look and exceptional strength.

Koga-EL.FF 1:10 FWD Buggy

Interesting Japanese project the Koga-EL.FF, a front wheel drive 1:10 buggy with rear trailing arm, is close to becoming a very limited edition kit release.  Very much a passion project with the emphasis on engineering rather than commercial success, its creator Kiyoshi Koga, a carpenter by trade, has spent 6 years researching and developing the buggy, incorporating the essence of the FWD buggy he built himself that won the Japanese National Championship back in 1992.  With EL.FF standing for Electric Leader Frontmotor Frontdrive, only 50 kits will be released with each individually numbered from 1 to 50.  Details on where to pre-order the Koga-EL.FF is expected to be announced shortly with shipping expected in July.

Schumacher CAT PB Shock Tower Conversion Sets

Schumacher has introduced three new Shock Tower Conversion Sets for their CAT PB 1:10 4WD Buggy.  The shock tower conversion for the front of the CAT PB has been used at the Florida Carpet Champs and the EOS in Daun to great success.  This system allows the user to adjust not only shock tower height but camber width as well. The Benefits are being able to choose a standard height shock or lower mounted shock limiting up travel and lowering the Centre of Gravity.  The Camber straps go from 43mm (kit) to 46mm and then 50mm being the widest. This is allowing the chassis to be stiffened in roll with the wider the strap, allowing the CAT PB to become even more responsive while staying flat. The Geometry changes have been run over the last 6 months by our Factory team and proven these are worthwhile changes.  The Rear Shock Tower ‘Low Grip’ Conversion Set, has been used by the British manufacturer race team around the world who found the narrow strap option very helpful. This change will be lengthening the link length and will soften the car in roll.  This will benefit the CAT PB’s on power steering allowing the rear to roll more while accelerating through high speed corners.  The ‘High Grip’ Rear Shock Tower Conversion allows you to lower the shocks and wing down lowering the centre of gravity but not increasing droop.  By the addition of the wishbone plates we are able to keep the shock rates the same but with that the stiffness’s across the wishbone have altered. With the Lower shocks and Wing in these positions the car corners much flatter, this will require a softer setup on the rear on some surfaces to compensate.
