Toy Fair – Kyosho Dnano

Kyosho Dnano

Kyosho are at the show with a new range of 1/43rd scale mini cars, smaller than the Mini-Z, called the Dnano. As far as I’m aware the new cars havent been officially launched yet but we did spot some hidden away on a glass stand and also spotted one being run on the makeshift Mini-Z track. They look great and performance on the track looked good, at least in a straight line. Available in a number of different body types, they are controlled by the new 2.4Ghz radio system that comes with the new generation Mini-Z’s.

Ryan Lutz wins Midwest Nitro Champs

Ryan Lutz wins Midwest Nitro Champs

Kyosho have been in touch to tell us that their team driver Ryan Lutz drove his Sirio-powered Inferno 777 WC buggy and Inferno ST-RR truck to wins in their respective classes during the 13th Annual Midwest Nitro Champs at the popular CRCRC facility last weekend. Lutz TQ’ed the truggy class and, even with two lengthy pit stops to repair some body damage, led the last 60 laps of the main to take a decisive victory. In the 1:8 buggy class, Lutz qualified sixth which meant he had a tough task ahead if he hoped to sweep both 1:8 classes, however a superior driving performance allowed Lutz to pull to the front of the pack. An unfortunate flameout in the latter stages of race erased a comfortable half-lap lead and put Lutz nearly a full lap down to Mayfield. Once back on the track, Lutz bumped his pace to more than a full second a lap faster over the next 30 laps, closing an entire lap on Mayfield and making the inevitable pass to take the victory, completing the sweep of both classes.

King, Vik & Nicol sweep Kyosho Fall Classic

King, Vik & Nicol sweep Kyosho Fall Classic

Kyosho drivers Cody King, Tyler Vik, and privateer Jeff Nicol made it a Kyosho 1-2-3 sweep in the Truggy class at the Kyosho Fall Classic last weekend. Cody King had TQ, but an early race tangle near the starting grid surrendered the lead to Kyosho driver Ryan Lutz. Lutz lead the majority of the main, but King maintained pressure, and slowly chipped away at the leaders cushion. After the final pit stops, the two were side by side on the track, and then King took control with about 5 minutes to go. With King a mere 10 seconds ahead, and only 3 minutes to go, Lutz had a mechanical problem, and dropped out. Lutz still had accumulated enough laps to land in 5th place.

Ryan Lutz takes JBRL Championship

Ryan Lutz takes JBRL Championship

Kyosho was in contact to tell us that their Factory Driver Ryan Lutz and a number of other Kyosho drivers attended the final race of the season for the popular Southern California JBRL (Jimmy Babcock Racing League) Series. Lutz went into the final race of the series having already clinched the Truggy title, but if there were any question why the championship was already locked up, Lutz and the ST-RR made it abundantly clear. Lutz jumped out to an early lead over TQ Levi Jackson, also driving an ST-RR with a short chassis, and didn’t look back. His Sirio CL7B-powered ST-RR was very fast and agile, stretching out nearly a two-lap lead at the end of 15 minutes. Kyosho drivers Levi Jackson and Jimmy Wright finished second and third respectively making it an all-Kyosho podium. Jackson also took third overall for the series, giving Kyosho two of the three podium positions for the series. Cody King and Ryan Lutz also finished second and third for the series with their Sirio-powered Inferno 777 WC cars.

Greg Hodapp Joins Team Kyosho

Greg Hodapp Joins Team Kyosho

World class driver, Greg Hodapp has joined Team Kyosho for the upcoming race season. This return to racing for Greg will also be the second time that he has been able to work with Gil Losi Jr.

I spoke with a few other interested manufacturers, but when given the opportunity to work closely with Gil Losi Jr once again, the choice was simple.  Gil has always been able to bring out the best in me and I’m very excited about the direction this team is taking.

Greg will be driving both of Kyosho’s RB5 and ZX5 for the upcoming season. His Kyosho buggies will be powered by Slingshot Batteries and Novak Brushless systems. Look for Greg to be attending major events throughout the 2008 race season.
