VRC Column – March update

VRC Column – March update

The HB Cyclone was the first electric chassis that was modeled for VRC Pro, back in 2006. By now this chassis has been replaced by their latest development, the HB TCX. This caused us to go back to the 3D drawing board and model the new chassis in hi res. With the TCX now finished we have our electric car line up ready for launch. This lineup includes the Tamiya TRF417, the Associated TC6, the Xray T3 ’11, the HB TCX, the Kyosho TF6 and our own ‘generic’ Intercept ER10.

VRC Column – Retro, Multiple screens & Beta testing

VRC Column - Retro, Multiple screens & Beta testing

VRC is planning to offer you some other r/c racing experiences than just the latest and fastest that’s on the market today. Vintage r/c cars are one of them. We have already modeled a PB9 International, one of the last generation of simple non-suspension cars from the late seventies. We are now looking into the physics of such models in order to make them drive like they did in those days. The vintage cars may draw old school racers back into r/c and perhaps even inspire them to get their kids involved in radio controlled model car racing. Who knows what this will bring to r/c, and if for nothing else, we at VRC will be proud of bringing these old cars back to life again.

VRC Pro striving for ultimate realism

VRC Pro striving for ultimate realism

In the quest for the ultimate in realism VRC have announced that they have taken every step necessary to ensure the long awaited release of VRC Pro will feature the latest technologies across all classes. This is especially relevant for electric touring cars, which when modeling for the game started nearly 4 years ago all cars in this class were running NiMh batteries and brushed motors. The cars that will be used in the game will of course feature the now standard LiPo cells and brushless motors. From a physics point of view there are only small differences between NiMh and LiPo but they still need to do more research on the discharge curves. With the brushless motors however more work has to be done on the speed controllers with the variable timing and how timing affects heat build-up on the motor. We hear that the game is close to completion and will go in to the Alpha test phase next month with the goal being for a full release in January.

VRC Column – Sneak Preview VRC Pro

VRC Column - Sneak Preview VRC Pro

VRC Pro is now in alpha testing state, meaning all systems and structures are being intensively tested before to start the beta test with outside users. The waiting was for the proprietary XANDRA graphics engine to deliver the first in-game pictures. And they are stunning! The graphics engine delivers a hi definition r/c racing experience as real as it will ever get. Dynamic shading on the 3D pit table user interface, light reflection and specularity produce a fully realistic pit table environment from where you build and set up your car or go racing. And in the background the live race track with cars on it. It’s just like being on the track.

Hättich wins 2009 VRC 1/10th World title

With an incredible consistent run, German Frank Hättich has earned himself the 2009 World Championship title in 1:10 Touring car. He faced strong competition of 2009 World Series champ Luciano Assis and 2008 World Champ Ronald Volker, but they had no answer to Frank’s flawless 45 minute final run. Frank’s slowest lap was 17.740 sec. in his 88th lap of totally 159 laps, truly world championship material! Assis and Völker complete the podium 8 and 23 seconds behind Hättich.
