Orlowski wins as EWS makes successful return

After an enforced year break due to COVID-19, the Essex Winter Series returned this weekend with the first event in its 10th Anniversary Season. Despite concerns as to the health of the industry, a fully booked meeting greeted all the racers, along with an expanded pitting area to allow for more space. It was also great to see many new faces joining the famous championship, as well as plenty of returning names. In the premier Scorpion Modified class, Michal Orlowski joined the UK front-runners, but it was current UK National Champion, Olly Jefferies, who came out on top after Qualifying. The Xray pilot topped three of the four rounds to secure pole position, with Capricorn’s Kyle Branson pushing Olly close and taking Q3 – but seemed to be just that little bit behind Olly. Michal took a strong third for Schumacher, improving every run as he got used to the EWS track, with Andy Murray (Schumacher) and Chris Grainger (Awesomatix) completing the top five on the grid.

Daniel Kobbevik sweeps Norwegian EP Offroad finals

It was time for the last 1/10 offroad race of the year in Norway, and the biggest event of all is the National Championship Race. This time it was held close to Trondheim City, and the surface was EOS carpet and control tyres for all drivers. No pre practise for the drivers, so same amount of time on track for everybody. First up was 2wd and this year also this class had the “Kings Pocal” as well. The highest mark you can achieve in Norway, and its switched around in different classes, so it sits pretty high to win that trophy. The amount of drivers was good, and the level as well, all the best drivers in 1/10 were gathered to fight for the titles.

With a successful first round last month, this is now the 2nd largest entry for the series with a total of 111 entries which is a record for this location. The big and high speed layout pushed average lap times close to 20 second per lap. It’s one of the biggest tracks they go to for this series. The highlight of the battle for the weekend was for sure in 17.5 TC. For sure it was intense from the qualifier till the main. Round 1 TQ went to an up and coming youngster Lazaro Alonzo Jr. Only been driving EP touring for a few months coming from Nitro racing, he was on his A game for pace this weekend. Competition was tight and the round 2 TQ goes to the long time racing veteran Jimmy Morris. For anyone who has been watching the series, Jimmy has been a long time racer and with this tough competitive field this is the first TQ Jimmy was able to achieve after all these years. Congrats.
