Jerome wins as Yannick takes championship

Round four of the French 1/8th Nitro Buggy Championship took place this weekend in the Normandy in the Northwest of France. The track had a lot of difficulties to offer with loads of dirt and many holes. Kyosho’s Jerome Aigoin scored his first in the championship this year in front of his brother Yannick whose 2nd place was enough to win him the championship title. Agama driver Hugon Edouard came in 3rd to round out the podium. Missing in the main final was HB’s Renaud Savoya who DNF’d in the semifinal due to a broken servo.

Björn Koenig leads ePower-West-Masters

Gas-powered cars 1/8th scale nitro on-road are considered to be the Formula 1 of radio controlled racing and like full-scale motorsports with the new Formula E, who have their season finale this weekend in downtown London, the new electric-powered 1/8th scale cars are an upcoming alternative. In the slipstream to the Nitro-West-Masters, a popular and still growing championship for 1/8th and 1/10th scale nitro on-road cars in Western Germany, the ePower-West-Masters have been launched for the 2015 season with four rounds in the preliminary calendar. Already at the end of the 2014 season the 1/8th ePower cars, powered by 6S LiPo packs, up to 2200Kv brushless motors and a minimum weight of 2500 grams have shown their potential in two promotion races at Borgholzhausen and Hamm.

Coelho takes A1 at ETS Slovakia

sat_coehag-620x372

Bruno Coelho took a straight forward tone to tone win in the opening A-Main at the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Slovakia.  Starting from his first ETS pole position, the Xray driver led home team-mate Alexander Hagberg for what could be a significant result for the team at their home race with the threat of rain making it likely at least one of the two remaining Mains will not be run.  Closest to the Xray duo, who were a class apart throughout the 5-minutes leaving the rest of the field behind, would be Tamiya’s Marc Rheinard. Starting fourth Rheinard inherited 3rd on the opening lap after a mistake from Meen Vejrak and then survived a challenge from Yannic Prumper to hold that position to the finish.

Bruno claims home TQ for Xray

sat_brunoface-620x372

Bruno Coelho has secured a home TQ for Xray at the final round of the 2014/15 Yokomo Euro Touring Series.  Claiming his first win of the World famous championship at the previous round in Luxembourg, today’s qualifying result at the Hudy Racing Arena is the first time the Portuguese star has taken the honour of being Top Qualifier.  With light rain forcing the cancellation of the fourth scheduled round of qualifying going into the third round Coelho’s Q1 & 2 TQ runs meant he already assured of pole position.  Team-mate Alexander Hagberg however would go on to take Q3 once action resumed on a dry track compounding Xray’s celebrations as the result made for a 1-2 on the grid for the Slovakian manufacturer.  Behind Hagberg, Meen Vejrak had a strong qualifier to post the 2nd fastest time securing the Yokomo driver third on the grid ahead of Marc Rheinard.  For champion elect Ronald Volker he will have to lay claim to his fifth consecutive ETS title from 8th on the grid.

Xray 1-2 as Coelho repeats in Q2

fri_coelhotq2-620x372

Bruno Coelho headed an Xray 1-2 in the second round of qualifying at the sixth & final round of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Slovakia. As darkness started to fall on the Hudy Racing Arena, Coelho backed up his Q1 topping performance with a super fast TQ time ahead of team-mate Alexander Hagberg.  While Coelho had a clear advantage in the cooler night conditions over his rivals behind him little separated the next three drivers with Yannic Prumper completing the Top 3 behind Hagberg with Marc Fischer only 1/10th further back. For title challenger Marc Rheinard and reigning champion Ronald Volker the qualifier would see both drivers lack pace to set the 5th and 6th fastest times respectively.

Coelho TQs opening qualifier in Slovakia

fri_brunodriv-620x372

Bruno Coelho has TQ’d the opening round of qualifying at the season finale of the Yokomo Euro Touring Series in Slovakia.  The Xray driver topped the times at the Hudy Racing Arena from Serpent’s Viktor Wilck as a number of drivers suffered heavy damage following offs.  Reigning champion Ronald Volker destroyed his Yokomo when it made contact with the barriers after flying off the track at the Arena main straight left hand kink.  Alexander Hagberg would suffer similiar faith.  The only driver who can deny Volker a fifth consecutive ETS title, Marc Rheinard would also crash out of the qualifying after a mistake over the curbing in the infield launched his Tamiya into a catch wall resulting in a broken wheel.  With Rheinard a DNF, it was Akio Sobue who would be the top Tamiya with the Japanese star completing the Top 3.

Nitro-West-Masters Rd2 – Report

Nitro-West-Masters Rd2 – Report

Round two of the 6-event Nitro-West-Masters 2015 was recently held in Haltern. It was the third race meeting on the 234 meter track since its comeback in 2012 following a break of a couple of years. The track, located  on the site of a driving training centre, is well-known for the nice atmosphere in the paddock with lots of tents and for its small but high rostrum. A total of 51 drivers attended the race that held some extremely close decisions in three of four classes. In the 1/8th Open class Serpent racer Ralf Vahrenkamp took the TQ ahead of Uwe Baldes (Mugen) and Andreas Goebel in his first race with ARC. In the 39 minutes finale Baldes was able to move into the front spot but while leading his Mugen suffered a gearbox issue which forced the reigning champion to retire. So it was Vahrenkamp who was back in the lead again and who brought home the victory after 120 laps. Only eight seconds behind old-boy Reinhard Zick (Mugen) crossed the finish line. Much closer was the battle for the third spot on the podium which went to Matthias Guenther (Shepherd) who completed 117 laps only 7/10th of a second ahead of Martin Figge (Motonica). Also Thomas Kroeger (Serpent) did 117 laps but he ended the race another two and a half seconds down on Figge.
