Drivers relishing Madrid’s ETS debut

Drivers competing in the Yokomo Euro Touring Series are relishing the prospect of racing in Spain this weekend (7-9th April) as Madrid makes its debut on the championship calendar. While the well known holiday island of Gran Canaria has welcomed the ETS in the past, this is the first time the mainland will play host to a round of the world famous touring car championship. Also as it is the first outdoor event of current season, there is an extra air of anticipation among the title contenders as they prepare for battle on the large Asoger track. With the opening two rounds of the championship producing two different winners in Bruno Coelho and Ronald Volker, the switch from carpet to asphalt for Round 3 is an important opportunity to fight back however based on last season there is one driver who stands above the rest and that is Coelho. The reigning Champion, the Xray driver won two of the three outdoor events last season and while very different conditions he also took the first big asphalt win of the season when he won the TITC in Thailand.

29th April Fool’s Classic – Report

The April Fool’s Classic has a deep history in the world of R/C off-road racing. Known as R/C’s 2nd longest running race and the premier race in Utah, over the years it has attracted some of the industry’s best drivers to compete on a high-bite, clay track better known as Intermountain R/C Raceway. Last weekend IRCR hosted the 29th Annual April Fool’s Classic and since the new ownership under Murfdog, has seen a significant resurgence of a genuine classic. The grip is always high at IRCR and by the mains, the fastest tires are ghost pins or slicks in the rear with low tread up front. With that kind of bite, navigating the flowy layout filled with technical elevated corners and jumps wasn’t an easy feat. Perhaps the hardest part on the track was the big triple that landed into a 180-degree turn coming onto the straightaway. The more precise you could land the jump while still maintaining a tight line and corner speed, the more time you could shave off your lap.

Greek 200mm Nitro Touring National Series Rd2 – Report

The Montelodromio track of Patras, Greece recently played host to the second round of the Greek National 200mm Nitro On-road Series. The event also doubled as the Greek National Cup Race. In the 35-minute A-main mishaps by the top qualifier allowed Bill Lykaris and Nikos Karabelas to battle for the lead. After a nerve shattering 15-minutes bumper-to-bumper battle, Nikos had retained the lead and kept his pace fast and steady while other drivers made errors and fell back. In the later stages of the final, after the last two pit stops, Nikos had already built a huge 3-lap lead so he had to just bring the car home although this wasn’t an easy task with many incidents happening on the technical track, but Nikos Karabelas (BMT) kept his cool and crossed the finish line first, bringing home the win at round two of the championship, the National Cup title and also the fastest single lap. Bill Lykaris (Shepherd) came in second while Dimitris Papadopoulos (Serpent) had to settle for third.
