ROAR Legalise BL Motors for Stock

ROAR Legalise BL Motors for Stock

In all of the excitement surrounding ROAR announcing the legality of LiPo cells for sanctioned racing we overlooked the introduction of Brushless motors for stock racing. According to Novak, 17.5-turn brushless motors have been approved for use in the Stock class and in addition there is a name change for the 19T class. This will now be known as the Super Stock Class, and will allow 10.5 and 13.5-turn brushless motors.

Ian Haley joins Team Xray

Team Xray have made the announcement that former Australian National Champion, and top off road racer, Ian Haley has joined their team. Ian has a very impressive and extensive list of National and International championships to his credit in the hotly-contest Buggy & Truggy classes and had the following to say about the prospect of joining Team Xray.

Joining Team XRAY is a dream come true for me. Working with both Mario and Juraj and the team, using the highest-quality performance-driven products, will be a great pleasure! After testing both the XB8 and XT8, I found them exceptional straight from the box, and with all the options available they are true race winners. I would like to give a big “Thank you” to Team XRAY and Custom Model Cars.

ROAR approve LiPo packs for racing

ROAR approve LiPo packs for racing

Some major changes of heart at ROAR following today’s confirmation by the US Governing body that lithium battery technology has been approved for use in ROAR sanctioned events. Essentially all 7.4v batteries in a hard case will be approved for use if they pass the safety tests, of which there are three, the most important is the overcharge test. They are now approved to be used in 6 cell, sub-C Ni-Cd and NiMH classes and must meet the current minimum weight requirement, which means racers will need to add weight to their cars.

Cris Oxley is BRCA Micro Scale Champion

Cris Oxley is BRCA Micro Scale Champion

We received a report from the 4th round of the BRCA Micro Nationals, which after a 2 month break returned to the carpet at the Tamworth TRRAC club’s new venue. The track layout was challenging from the start. Corrugated plastic rumble strips, a perspex crossover, 12ft high wall ride, a gym mat filled ‘S-bend’ and a corner table top back onto the main 20m long straight would separate the men from the boys and make for exciting finals later on in the day.

Blackstock & Cyrul take Novak race wins

Blackstock & Cyrul take Novak race wins

RC Car Action have a brief report from last weekends US Touring Car Championships, an all brushless event run by Scotty Ernst. In the foam 10.5-turn and Modified classes, it was a two man show between Mike Blackstock and Josh Cyrul. Corally’s Blackstock set the TQ in both classes with this RDX Phi and looked untouchable, but Josh Cyrul with his custom built sedan won the 10.5-turn A1 and A2 mains to take the overall win. In the Modified class it was all she wrote when Blackstock took the early lead and checked out in both the A1 and A2-mains to claim the championship.

BRCA 1/12th Nationals Round 4

 BRCA 1/12th Nationals Round 4

The 4th round of the BRCA 1/12th scale Nationals was held last weekend at the Tamworth track and in qualifying for Saturday’s 19T turn event it was Chris Kerswell that claimed the TQ spot ahead of Andy Griffiths in 2nd. In the final, a coming together at the start knocked Griffiths out of contention and Mick Farrell took off after the then leader Kerswell and eventually got passed, but he too fell out of contention and this left Keith Robertson to come from 5th on the grid to take the win. In the modified class there were no surprises with Andy Griffiths taking the TQ and in the final he managed pull away and take the win, giving him his 4th in a row and enabling him to wrap up the modified title with his HB Cyclone 12.
