Markus Hellquist doubles at Swedish Open Champs
Last weekend’s Swedish Open Championships in Åtvidaberg not only saw the running of the 1/12th Stock class but also Touring Modified and Stock, 1/12th Modified and Formula racing. Markus Hellquist, in best Jan Ratheisky fashion, attended in the three classes of Touring Modified, Formula and 1/12th Modified and he would also TQ all three categories although at first he struggled to get into grips in the 1/12th class. In the Touring Modified A-mains Markus then made a clean sweep by coming out fastest in A1 and A2 to grab the overall title with one leg to spare. Jonas Andersson would come in second, Niclas Nilsson ended the day in third.

Peter Bohman takes Swedish Open Champs title

Peter Bohman takes Swedish Open Champs title

The Swedish Open Championships were held this past weekend in Åtvidaberg in several electric on-road classes. In 1/12th Stock Peter Bohmann took the TQ with the fastest time in the qualifiers from Magnus Hedlund and Per Carlsson. The triple A-mains then were a mixed affair for the top guys as the small track made passing difficult and the back markers would play a significant role also. The opening A-main had Magnus Hedlund coming out successful with Peter Bohman ending in second only a second shy of Magnus. Marcus Andersson finished A1 in third. The second A-main then was an equally tight affair but this time the TQ holder came out fastest from Magnus in second and Per Carlsson in third. In the third and decisive main things got further mixed up with Per taking the win from Magnus and Peter. When the dust settled Peter grabbed the overall win although being tie on points with Magnus but the better tie-breaker handed him the 2016 1/12th Stock title.

The first round of the 2016 South-African ORE National Championship was held at the Krugersdorp Model Racers club. Free practise started on Thursday but Summer rains only allowed for a couple of hours practise on Thursday and Friday. The rain stayed away for the weekend and a full racing schedule could be managed. The weather challenged the drivers with a little variation in traction due to temperature differences but the track was in great shape and the drivers pushed hard and raced fast. The opening round also marked the introduction of new Nationals rules that see less classes with now only Touring Modified, Touring Pro Stock 13.5T Blinky, 1/12th Modified, Formula and 13.5T FWD being run.
