Jared Tebo doubles at 2017 JC Spring Nationals

The 2016 JConcepts Spring Nationals where held at The Plex in Omaha, Nebraska over the weekend. The event attracted both local talent as well as national front runners and the opening Nitro Buggy qualifiers saw Jared Tebo walking away with wins in Q1 and Q2 but in Q3 of Buggy Tebo and Jonathan Burkhalter battled for the round TQ with the two being separated by only a tenth of a second. With Jonathan leading he would bobble right at the end, handing Jared another TQ for a clean sweep. In Truggy things looked a bit different. Jared ran onto engine trouble in Q1 after damaging his engine’s carburettor after landing a jump, causing the engine to work erratic for the remainder of the run. After sorting the problems out for Q2 Tebo was on fire, taking wins in the following rounds to also grab the TQ position in Truggy.

Carsten Keller wins at West German regionals Rd2

Round two of the German West division Nitro Off-road regionals was held in Kürten over the weekend. Different from other parts of the country the weather stayed dry, meaning good and high grip racing conditions. In the qualifiers the race for the TQ position was on between Carsten Keller (SWorkz) and Jörn Neumann (Serpent). At the end Carsten would be able to grab a very narrow TQ and the fight between the two would continue in the main final when both swapped the lead several times in the opening stages. About 10 minutes in to the main Carsten was able to open a gap that he would be able to extend to over a lap at the end of the 30-minute final. Jörn Neumann had to settle for second while Daniel Reckward (Serpent) completed the top 3 result another lap down.

Cox Optima 2016 aluminium shock absorbers

Cox Optima 2016 aluminium shock absorbers

Cox have introduced oil-filled aluminium shock absorbers for Kyosho’s Optima 2016 1/10th 4WD buggy. Machined from aluminium and coming with a high-precision finish the shocks offer an increased oil volume and travel compared to the standard “red” shocks. Design-wise the dampers are oriented at Kyosho’s iconic “gold” shock absorbers and thus they are making a cool period-correct option part. The shocks are available as separate front and rear sets including springs and also as combo package including both the short front and long rear shocks.

Reno Savoya wins rain-affected French Buggy Nats Rd3

Reno Savoya wins rain-affected French Buggy Nats Rd3

The third round of the French 1/8th Off-road Nationals was held in Longvic next to France’s mustard capital of Dijon. Sunday started out nice and sunny but after the semifinals heavy rain started to fall, leaving the organisers no choice but to cancel the A-main. This left Reno Savoya (TLR) with the win from Xray’s Yannick Aigoin with a lucky Jean-Pierric Sartel rounding out the podium. Reno now already scored two wins in the national championship this year while another frontrunner, Jerome Aigoin flamed out two times in his semi, meaning no top 12 finish at round three for the Kyosho driver.

Atsushi Hara clinches 2016 FEMCA Buggy title

The final day of the 2016 FEMCA 1/8th Buggy Championship, held at the Southern Alley Track in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, started with a delay due to heavy rain but thanks to the track’s efficient water drainage the organisers were able to start the lower finals soon after the weather cleared up. In the semifinal A, the grid leader, Wataru Takashiro took an easy win while in the semifinal B, Shin Adachi finished first after Atsushi Hara ran into receiver pack issues. At the end Atsushi Hara finished in eights and managed to secure a lucky 15 spot for the A-main final. In the main, Atsushi soon stormed to the front and in lap 9 he was able to take the lead. From that moment on the race started to heat up with Atsushi Hara and Wataru Takashiro racing bumper to bumper, exchanging the lead, until Wataru Takashiro had to pit, rectifying a steering link issue which left Atsushi Hara in the lead that he would hold on to until the checkered flag to take the title from Shin Adachi in second and Paphon Chanyasak in third.
