C.I. UISP Italian Championship 2013 – Report

The Italian C.I. UISP Championship took place on beautiful track in Gubbio. This year, unlike in the past, it was only a single race championship run in touring car modified, stock F1 and stock F2. Qualification started on Saturday and it was Mattia Collina in stock F1 who showed immediately that he was going to be the man to beat. In just three laps he built a 1 second gap ahead of the second place driver. He took TQ followed by fellow Xray driver Alessio Tolomelli with Nico Catelani in third. The stock F2 qualifications were all about the duel between Xray driver Marco Marino and Andrea Senni until the end with Senni having more luck taking the pole position on the final grid. The modified category was a much closer affair. Francesco Martini was able to get the TQ followed by fast Diego Macchioni and Alessandro Ciaccheri. Alessio Menicucci, last year’s champion, finished 7th in the qualification.

The EFRA Nitro On-Road 40+ European Championship took place at the famous La Turbie track in Monaco with its fast and flowing layout and the challenging bumps in the Parabolica corner. The practice sessions of the 1/10th 200mm class had Germany’s Hartmut Rose, Daniel Grosso (Monaco), Alexander Naumov (Russia) and Bernd Hasselbring (Germany) pulling the fastest laps and it was obvious that these drivers would be hot candidates to battle for the 40+ title. Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

Stuiver wins at Dutch champs, Rombouts champion

The AMCA Apledoorn track saw the final round of the Dutch 1/10th nitro on-road championship. This time no Kyosho World Cup driver attended due to the KWC International Race but a couple of guests filled up the NK clas field nicely. Daan Stuiver finally got it together having a perfect weekend, just beating Pedro Rombouts to the pole in front of Julius Kolff. Sander Borghoff completed the top 4. In the final Daan took the gamble and selected a car that was good in the beginning of the race. Julius gambled as well but it did not work out for him. At the end Daan took the win one lap ahead of Pedro with Ruud Schuitemaker completing the podium. Milan Holthuis came in fourth, Julius Kolff completed the top 5. In the championship, it was between Roy Bakker and Pedro Rombouts. Pedro missed one race and had to end up in front of Roy Bakker while Roy had to finish five places in front of Pedro. Unfortunately Roy did not have the speed this weekend to challenge Pedro so the latter took the championship again.
