A while back we brought you shots of the new RDX electric touring car prototype from Dutch manufacturer Corally. The car did very well at the Team Orion Speed Weekend and finished first and second at the recent Team Orion Cup in France (see pic above). Well it seems that the new car doesn’t like being called plain old prototype so it looked into the dictionary for a while and named itself……the RDX Phi. About as universally difficult to say as when Prince called himself symbol, the new Î¦ is actually pronounced ‘Phi’, so really rolls of the tongue then. The official slant on the name is “RDX-PHI :: THE INFINITE #1”, whether it keeps this name when it hits production we dont know but one thing is sure that whatever its going to be called its going to be pretty hard to beat never mind pronounce.
Red RC have EXCLUSIVE shots of the new Formula car from Serpent, the F180, that is due to be released in kit and RTR versions in the new year. These pictures have not yet been released and we are privelaged to be the first to get them and be allowed show them to you. In previous pictures there was no body with the car or the body was clear. The 3 pictures of the car, with painted body, that we have really give a clear idea of how it will look on the track and exposes those oh so familiar F1 lines. Thanks to Serpent for giving us the EXCLUSIVE on these images….did i mention EXCLUSIVE….oh yeh i think i did :)
Having already won the Brazilian Curitibano Championship at the previous round, the pressure was off for new champion Fabiano Franco. This however didnt stop him in winning the last round to cement his position at the top of the Modified standings. Second place at the last round and 5 seconds back on Fabiano was team mate FlÃ¡vio Salinet who managed to also secure second place in the championship ahead of OtÃ¡vio Langowski who finished 3rd in the standings.
Sunday morning, with a cold wind, saw the start of the first heat with FlÃ¡vio in 4th place at the end of the race. FlÃ¡vio got 1st place with Fabiano Franco in 2nd: both XRAY TEAM DRIVERS. Heat after heat, Fabiano and FlÃ¡vio were battling until heat 5.
Just a quick heads up to say that the HPI Cyclone Moore-Speed edition has today been shipped from HPI in Japan. This is the car that was made to commemorate Andy Moores World Championship win in Italy this year and if you’ve ordered one you can now start doing a little celebratory dance.
Serpent have a report on their site celebrating the fact that they have won the 2006 Greek 1/8th scale championship. John Sotiropoulos claimed the title driving a Serpent 960 and benefitted from a bit of luck in the last round of the championship to have his main title rival John Arkoumanis fall out after he himself had problems.
With his main rival also encountering problems the RC Microracing driver worked his way back to fourth position enough to give him the winning margin in the standings over Kyosho driver John Arkoumanis. Backing up the strength of the Serpent 960/Mega package Vaggelis Papachristos took third overall in the championship standings.
Although the race took place at the end of October, the report from the 2006 Singapore HPI Invitational Challenge 3 is only online now. Being hosted at the East Coast Park Raceway, the event attracted racers from all around South East Asia including Australia. After the race was over it was Alvin Koh who had gotten TQ and won the event ahead of Ong Chee Yong in second with 15 year old Nicolas Lee rounding off the podium.
Located at the center of Southeast Asia including Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand, Singapore is one of the best countries to host an international event. With TV crews and many spectators, the event made an exciting weekend for the whole nation. HPI was the main sponsor of the event, aiming at vitalizing the RC market in Singapore.
Martin Lissau has written his report from the second round of the Danish National championships in which he finished 2nd. Martin has yet to take that top step of the podium with his new Xray T2007 having also taken 2nd place in the first round of the championship but we’re sure its only a matter of time before that happens.
The finals were not the best-driven finals in the world, but after some good battles and close racing (sometimes a bit too close) Jonas took first place. After Steen had some problems, I took the no. 2 spot and he took no. 3
Belgian racer Christophe De Vocht has developed a Drive Calculator program to work out drive ratios for all of Serpents current, and some older, models. The user can input all the pulley sizes as well as the tyre diameters for it to work out the ratio, it will also suggest a tyre size to get a user determined front to rear drive ratio too. As far as we are aware Christophe has also made versions for other manufacturers too.
