Berkan Kilic wins North German regional race

The MAC Uetersen club played host to a round of the North German 1/8th Nitro Off-road regionals this past weekend. The race was part of the qualifiers for the German nationals and right from the start it was clear that the race for the win was on between the Burak and Berkan Kilic. The 30-minute main final saw pole position holder Burak taking off with no problem and it looked like smooth sailing for the Agama driver but in the closing stages his young brother Berkan had closed the gap and after a nice and fair battle Berkan Kilic (Agama) was able to get past Burak to take the win by about 3/100th of a second. In 3rd TLR driver Hendrik who rounded out the podium.

Irish 1/10th Offroad National Championship Rd2 – Report

Round 2 of the Irish 1/10th Offroad National Championships was held in Navan on the hottest day of the year with temperatures soaring to a high of 27 Degrees Celsius. The astroturf track has recently had a lot of work done to it and it is now smoother and more technical than ever. All of the usual championship contenders were present, including the returning Derek McCloskey who re-joined his teammate William White after missing round 1. Derek made an immediate impression taking the 2WD TQ spot. In 4WD, William and Derek would top the standings with William taking TQ after topping every qualifying round and Derek going 2nd. In the 2WD finals, William came from 3rd in the first two legs to win both taking the overall win while Derek finishing 2nd in the first two meant he would take 2nd overall. Alan Thomson would round out the top 3 result. In 4WD and starting from pole, William quickly broke away from the field in the first two legs to secure the 4WD win also – doing the double. Denzell and Dylan McBurney came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Elliott Boots doubles at 2017 Kyosho Masters

The 2017 Kyosho Masters were held in Sucy En Brie, France this past weekend. The annual event attracts Kyosho drivers from all over the World to race in several categories. 6-times winner, UK’s Elliott Boots was the pre-event favourite for the win in both the Elite Buggy and E-Buggy classes and he would not disappoint. Elliott took a double TQ and he would also be in control of things in the main nitro buggy final that was shortened to 30 minutes because of the high temperatures. Boots would get past pole position holder Joao Figueiredo in the opening stages and he controlled the race from there, taking his fourth straight win of the event some two laps in front of Sweden’s Jessica Palsson and Portugal’s Joao Figueiredo. In the E-Buggy class it was again Elliott who excelled and by sweeping the triple A-mains he grabbed his second title of the weekend from Jessica Palsson 2nd and Stephane Deroch 3rd.

Pontus Larsson wins Middle Swedish Cup Rd3

Round 3 of the Middle Swedish Cup was held this past weekend with the event being hosted by the Borås MRK club. In the 1/8th Nitro Buggy class the race for the overall TQ was on between Emil Magnusson, Victor Gunnarsson and Pontus Larsson. In the end it was Pontos who took the TQ tie on points with Victor while Emil had to settle for 3rd after the qualifiers. The start of the main final held some difficulties for the TQ holder. Coming from the 3 spot on the grid he dropped down the field courtesy of some mishaps. Dropping down as low as 11th, Emil got his head down and already on lap seven he was back in 2nd again and after the first fuel stop he started to catch up to leader Victor Gunnarsson. The unfortunate Victor would make to big mistakes later that forced him to retire which made way for Pontus Larsson (Serpent) who would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the race to bring home the win some two laps in front of Alexander Castlind (Team Associated) while Pontus Magnusson (Kyosho) rounded out the top 3 result.

Xray XB8E 2017 1/8th electric buggy kit

Xray have introduced the 2017 variant of their popular XB8E platform. The buggy makes use of a lot of updates already part of the nitro XB8, such as redesigned, larger volume front, centre and rear differentials for improved performance and consistency during longer runs, trailing axle front steering spindles increase traction and handling while the improved Ackermann geometry and graphite material servo saver optimise the buggy’s steering response. Other changes in the steering compartment include a composite front upper deck, redesigned steering pivot balls do away with unwanted wheel locking and narrow profile front steering arms move the front wheels forward for better jump take off and landing. The package is rounded out by longer rear suspension arms and shorter suspension mounts for an updated rear end geometry that will help generate more traction and make for improved handling characteristics.

Darren Bloomfield takes Paddy Piston Race 2017

The BADMCC club recently held their popular Paddy Piston Race. A favourite for many, with the great track to race on, the fair challenge of a control tyre and the good humoured nature of the entire event this year’s edition was no exception. With the busy run up of the event complete, the Friday afternoon practise session was underway and the track was in fantastic shape, the track work undertaken by the team at BADMCC is truly unmatched and this is shown in the presentation and standard upheld by the race circuit. Milan Dragojlovic (HB Racing) would take the overall TQ from Agama’s Darren Bloomfield 2nd and Gary Baird 3rd. After being called onto the rostrum one by one, the countdown for the 1-hour main final soon started and they were off. Darren soon took the lead and started to develop a very large lead of the 2nd place driver. Towards the end of the final, lower position switched around and Andrew McClean (Agama) snatched the 3rd place podium spot from Jon Hazelwood (Agama) in 4th. This all stuck true till the flag dropped, with Darren taking a convincing win from Milan in 2nd and Andrew 3rd.

Cragg & Martin win at BRCA Electric Off-road Nats Rd3

Robin Hood Raceway played host to round 3 of the BRCA 1/10th Electric Off-road Nationals this past weekend. Neil Cragg dominated the 2WD class with his Team Associated. Pole position and the win means he continues his great start to the series with a perfect score after three rounds while Yokomo’s Lee Martin came in 2nd and Schumacher driver Tom Yardy rounded out the top 3 result. In the 4WD class it was Yokomo driver Lee Martin who grabbed the overall TQ and after some tight battles in the finals Lee would also score the overall win from Neil Cragg (Team Associated) 2nd and Team C’s Craig Collinson 3rd.

Naoki Akiyama wins ETS warm-up race

The German MC Ettlingen club recently held their International Electric On-road Event that was used by many drivers as a warm-up race for the forthcoming ETS event in July. In the premier Touring Modified class it was Yokomo’s Naoki Akiyama who took the overall TQ with Yokomo teammate Christopher Krapp ending the qualifiers on P2, tie on points with Naoki. In the finals Naoki would score wins in A1 and A3 to take the overall win while Tim Wahl (Xray) would score a win in A2 to grab the overall runner-up spot from Christopher Krapp who had to settle for 3rd.
