Robert Batlle wins Montpellier GP

The annual Montpellier GP, European season opener for the 1/8th off-road class, was held in France this past weekend. As usual the event attracted most of Europe’s 1/8th off-road aces and it was Italy’s Riccardo Berton (Kyosho) who would take the overall TQ courtesy of winning the opening three qualifiers. Spain’s Juan Carlos Canas (Mugen) would come in 2nd after the qualifiers. In the main final it was the duo of Davide Ongaro and Juan Carlos Canas who obtained the top spots, however from the depth of the field it was Mugen’s Robert Batlle who was after a fourth Montpellier win and so he would keep his head down and ultimately was able to get past the duo of Juan and Davide who weren’t able to challenge Robert. In the end Batlle would take the win from Juan Carlos 2nd and Davide 3rd as Riccardo Berton and David Ronnefalk (HB Racing) rounded out the top 3 podium result.

Hobbywing XeRun V10 G3 Modified & Stock motors

Coming soon from Hobbywing are the new XeRun V10 G3 Modified and Stock brushless motors. An evolution of the previous G2 motors, both are of a radical new design that does away with wide parts of the classic motor can in favour of longer front and rear end bells that are also tailor-designed to suit the application. While the 5.5T to 8.5T modified motors, intended for off-road applications, sport smaller openings in the end bells to prevent dirt from entering, the 3.5T to 5.0T modified and 10.5T to 21.5T stock motors will come with larger openings for added airflow and cooling. Both end bell designs are also available separately as upgrades. The updated can design greatly reduces overall weight with the modified motors weighing at approximately 161g while the stock variants weigh in at about 132g. While being lower in weight, Hobbywing claim the stock variants also produce four percent increased torque and up to 16 percent higher RPM compared to the G2. Also new for the G3 are a 26 percent larger front and a 6 percent smaller rear bearing which leads to more stable and smoother running motors. Both variants also come with stepless adjustable timing, in order to fine-tune the power characteristics. The specifications are rounded off by heavy duty solder tabs and a single sensor wire port.
