Ben Cosgrove wins Handy Models Grand Prix

Handy Models Grand Prix top 3

Ben Cosgrove has won the Handy Models Grand Prix run by the Cotswold Model Car Club, leading home an Xray NT1 1-2-3. Competing for the first time as a team the 3 UK Xray NT1 team drivers, Ben Cosgrove, Mark Gilliland and Robin Hammet, had to cope with tricky damp conditions on the Sunday of the event but a quick run in the dry Saturday qualifying gave Cosgrove the pole position which couldn’t be bettered on the final 2 damp qualifying runs on Sunday. In the final Ben managed to stay on the lead lap despite a tricky tire choice but as the track dried a bit he was able to get into the lead from where he could take the win, followed home by Robin Hammet and Mark Gilliland in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Rd1 of French 1/8th Nats

As well as the 1st round of the 1/10th Nationals that we wrote about that took place last weekend, the first round of the 1/8th scale Nationals took place on the same weekend in Avignon. In qualifying it was Mugen racer Stephane Bouche that would claim the pole position ahead of Kyosho racer Sebastian Zatla in 2nd and Adrien Siegfried, also driving a Kyosho in 3rd. At the start of the main final Guillot is knocked off the track and almost loses a lap while Bouche and Siegfried are left to battle it out at the front, Siegfried eventually having to retire with mechanical problems gifting Bouche the lead. All the time Guillot is working his way up the field having found a good pace and when Bouche has a problem, Guillot pounces and takes the lead and with it his first ever win in the Elite class followed home by Bouche in 2nd and Zatla in 3rd.

Darragh Fox wins Rd1 of Irish 1/8th Nationals

Darragh Fox

Serpent are reporting on their 1-2 finish at last weekends rain interrupted first round of the Irish 1/8th scale National Championships held in Raheny, just outside Dublin City. Serpent 960 racer Clive Connolly claimed the top spot in qualifying, but as the race was partially wet a number of drivers including Connolly became victims of radio gear trouble forcing them out of the race. This allowed the Serpent pairing of Dean Lacey and Darragh Fox to the field with Lacey leading until some radio problems close to the end of the race allowed Fox to take the lead and eventually the win, followed home by Lacey in 2nd with Mario Morelli in 3rd.
