EFRA & IFMAR clarify gyro illegality

EFRA & IFMAR clarify gyro illegality

Recent rumours about the use of gyro technology in EFRA sanctioned events made it necessary for Dallas Mathiesen, president of both EFRA and IFMAR, to clarify that the use of driving aids such as gyros, traction control and active suspension devices are strictly forbidden in EFRA and IFMAR sanctioned events. Drivers found using forbidden items will be subject of a severe penalty, such as a long term ban from all EFRA and IFMAR events.

EFRA has not and will not declared Gyro as legal. Neither could it be found anywhere in the IFMAR rules that it is allowed to use a Gyro as a driver aid in a Radio Controlled car.

The statement in full can be found on the EFRA website by clicking here (PDF file).

SARDA ORE national championship Rd2 – Report

The 2nd round of the 2014 South-African ORE national championship was held at the Welkom RC Track. A cold front hit South Africa and the tire warmers got turned up but the great indoor track managed to keep the drivers happy and the programme on schedule. The Touring Modified class once again provided some spectacular high-speed racing. The local hero Antonio Caroli took TQ honours but due to some unlucky incidents in the finals he would only end in 6th place overall. At the end it was Hein Kotze who dominated with faultless driving in all 3 finals. Anderton Smith and Deon Gove managed to grab the final two podium spots.

Yokomo BD7 2014 aluminium main chassis

Yokomo BD7 2014 aluminium main chassis

After a recent brief introduction Yokomo now have more information about their forthcoming aluminium main chassis for the BD7 touring car available. “I wanted to create an aluminum chassis that would perform excellently on both carpet and asphalt surfaces”, Yukijiro Umino, the chief designer of the BD7 2014, explains. To achieve this the 2.0mm chassis is machined from especial grade 7075 aluminium that, in combination with a new shape, makes for increased overall performance on both asphalt and carpet tracks. The black anodised chassis also features milled edges for looks and smoother cornering. Performance wise the rigidness of the aluminium reduces traction roll on high-grip carpet tracks to allow for more aggressive setups while on asphalt, the chassis’ stiffness contributes to the overall stability, improving the handling characteristics of the car. There is no official release date yet but we understand that the alloy chassis will become available very soon.

Sanwa SGS-01C drift car gyro system

Sanwa SGS-01C drift car gyro system

German Sanwa distributor LRP introduce the SGS-01C gyro system that helps to make car control much easier, especially on slippery surfaces as it can reduce both under- and oversteer tendencies. Designed with drift car racing in mind the gyro is also usable in many other applications although you have to check with the event’s rules before using it in competition as many tracks, race series and governing bodies ban the use of gyros for fairness reasons. When used in combination with Sanwa’s M12, Exzes-Z or MT-4S transmitters the gyro’s sensibility is adjustable via the radios and even during a run.
