We received a report that Team Alternativ/PRT/Sweep finished first of the 1/8th brushless cars at the recent 8 hour endurance race organised by RC94 in Sucy-en-Brie, France. Finishing 5th overall, the car used was a Losi Eight E with Team Tekin RX8 speedo, PRT motor, SMC batteries and Sweep Exagon tires. After fixing radio problems that cost them 65 laps during the first hour of racing, Team Alternative came back from 16th, and last position, to finish 5th, 68 laps down on the winning nitro car and managed to put in some of the fastest laps of the race. They only used two sets of Sweep Exagon tires throughout the entire race and the only mechanical problem was a rear bearing failure in the last hour.

Defending Champion Todd repeats Galway win

Defending Champion Todd repeats Galway win

Ireland’s 1:8 Off Road National Championship took competitors to the west of the country where the Galway Model Car Club played host to the second round of the 2010 championship. As with the opening round in Navan it was defending champion Michael Todd who took TQ honours with his Nitrotec powered Losi. Behind him Alan Scroggie claimed an impressive 2nd on the grid with his Xray just ahead of Round 1 winner Mark Harron. In the 45-minute final Todd repeated his 2009 performance at the dusty clay track converting his number 1 starting position into victory heading home the OS engined Hot Bodies of Harron to leave the pair tied on points at the top of the championship standings. Completing the Top 3 and claiming his first Buggy podium was Truggy graduate Christopher McCauley, the teenager looking very strong at the controls of his Xray/Max combination. In the Truggy class Top Qualifier Neil Irwin took his Novarossi powered Xray to victory over the Losi/Max of Oisin O’Briain with Steven Mc Clements’ Mugen completing the Galway podium. The RCCAOI National Series moves to the north of Ireland on May 30th where the huge Banbridge & District Model Car Club track is the venue for third round of the 6 round championship.

Drake takes buggy & truggy win at JBRL Rd2

Drake takes buggy & truggy win at JBRL Rd2

Round 2 of the JBRL Nitro Series was this past weekend at Revelation Raceway and attracted 200 entries. The track was fun and flowing, it made for incredible racing.  The Buggy final saw Adam Drake in his Novarossi powered 8ight 2.0 start from pole but a small mistake on lap one caused Drake to fall back a few spots. Within a couple of laps Adam was battling up front with Mark Pavidis for the lead before Mark made a mistake and Adam took over the lead and started to pull away from the field. The race looked to be in the bag, but a fueling mistake in the pits caused a flameout to Drake’s car, his pit man was able to get him fired and out of the pits without giving up the lead. Drake won the final followed by Pavidis in second, and Castellano in third. In the Truggy final, Drake once again had TQ’d and was followed closely by Cody King. The pair checked out and stretched a lead on the rest of the field. Adam’s pit strategy forced Cody to push hard to make up time and seemed to cause him to make too many mistakes. Drake took home the victory, followed by Cody King in second and Drew Moller in third.

Lee Martin takes 4wd National Rd2 win

oOple are reporting that Lee Martin took his second 4WD national win of the 2010 season at the second round of the series held at the Robinhood Raceway. Lee won the opening round of qualifying but it was Paul Bradby that dominated the rest of the days qualifying by taking the next three rounds with his Associated car to take the TQ spot in front of Lee Martin and James Heliwell. Lee took the opening leg of the A final after Paul Bradby had a car problem while in the lead and had to retire on lap 6. Paul fought back to win leg two so things went to the final leg. Lee and Paul fought hard for the full 5 minutes, swapping the lead several times before Lee managed to take the leg and with it the win. Bradby finished second overall and Tom Cockerill, winner of the 2wd round, third. Expect a full report on oOple soon.
