Renaud Savoya makes it 3 in a row

Three is a magic number and today Renaud ‘The Shark’ Savoya entered the sport’s history books as he notched up his third consecutive EFRA 1:8 Off Road European Championship.  The 30th running of these championships, the French ace won here in Portugal from Robert Batlle, the man whom he took the title from back in 2008.  Having struggled by his standards in qualifying, ending up only fourth, Savoya bounced back on the day it counted most.

Savoya takes Semi B but Batlle on pole

Renaud Savoya has won the second Semi final of the 2010 Euros despite his car flaming out on the last lap.  The defending Champion was on target for a 29 lap run but his RB powered Mugen came to a stop a third of the way around the final lap. A marshal got the car but then ran across the loop giving him a faster run than Batlle but the time keepers removed the rapid 36 second lap and he will now start second in the final.

Quarter finals now complete in Portugal

Quarter finals now complete in Portugal

The two quarter finals have been completed in Portugal and we now have our semi final line ups with British duo Darren Bloomfield and Elliot Boots along with Antonio Jesus Gomez, who came through from the 1/8 final, and Jörn Neumann moving up to Semi A. While in the B semi, the direct qualifiers will be joined by Alberto Garcia, Rodrigo Lusi, Javier Puche and Carlos Duraes.

King Headz S811 Shock towers, Squat plate & Clutch shoes

King Headz have released a whole range of products for the new Serpent S811. First to get their attention are the front and rear shock towers which have been CNC machined from 7075 aircraft grade aluminium and black anodized. These are designed to increase rigidity and add strength. They have also produced a 1-3 degree anti-squat plate which too has been CNC machined from 7075 aircraft grade aluminum and also black anodized. These are designed to increase rigidity and add strength and use the factory inserts. Finally there are two type of clutch shoes, machined from 7075 grade aluminium and also 6061 grade aluminum. Sold in sets of 4 shoes.

Yannick Aigoin Top Qualifier in Portugal

Yannick Aigoin Top Qualifier in Portugal

Yannick Aigoin is the Top Qualifier here in Portugal and going on the form of the previous four European Championships, is on target to lift his third EFRA title.  Since 2006, when Aigoin last won the Euros, the Top Qualifier has gone on to take the overall victory.  The factory Losi driver secured the No.1 spot after recording his third TQ run of the five rounds in the last qualifier of the event, much to the delight of Losi top man Bill Jeric who has traveled over from the US to support his drivers.

Matias tops penultimate qualifier in Portugal

Former Champion Miguel Matias has TQ’d the penultimate round of qualifying here in Portugal this morning ahead of defending Champion Renaud Savoya, ending the Aigoin brothers domination at the top of the time sheets.  The only Portuguese driver to have ever won the European title, the Losi driver said track condition were more difficult today but he was very happy to take the round.

Aigoin domination continues at 2010 Euros

It was a good opening day of qualifying for France’s Aigoin brothers as they TQ’d all three of today’s rounds.  Starting the day of with the fastest time Yannick again topped Q3 after his brother set the pace in Q2 leaving the pair 1 & 2 in the overnight qualification ranking with two more rounds tomorrow.

Aigoin brothers rule in Portugal

Having watched his brother Yannick TQ the opening round of qualifying, Jerome Aigoin has gone and set the pace in Q2 to give us a repeat of Austria last year where they TQ’d the opening two qualifiers only in the opposite order.  The Kyosho driver said he found a really good rhythm during the run and his MP9 was probably capable of going faster.  Running AKA iBeam medium tyres he said the only set-up change he made was to a harder front spring and the car was perfect.  Feeling the track had better grip but bigger bumps the French driver said he plans to stick with the same set-up for the third and final qualifier of the day.
