The 2009 New Zealand On road Gas Nationals took place last weekend at the Ruapuna Raceway hosted by the Canterbury Radio Control Car Club and in attendance were several Australians including Peter and Steven Jovanovic. In the 1/10th scale class it was Steven and Peter Jovanovic that took 1st and 2nd respectively both running Kyosho chassis’, while in 3rd place was Mark Harling with the Xray NT1. In 1/8th scale there was another dominant performance by the Jovanovics, this time with Peter taking the win from Steven, both driving Motonica, with Selywn Duthie taking 3rd place driving a Mugen. Located on the Kyosho booth, as was the case last year, Team Orion have been displaying their latest and greatest wares. While the electric motors remain pretty much un altered from last year, their new engine line has been completely revamped with the new Alpha line joining the previous CRF engine to complete a formidible gas powered line up. On display is some of the new Alpha line including the ABI (Adrien Bertin Influenced) versions which will include the lighter cooling heads and some other extras. VRC graphics artist Tony West has delivered yet another chassis for VRC Pro: the Associated GT2 Factory Team gas truck. This chassis will fit the 1:10 nitro off-road class that will be featured in VRC Pro. Off-road will have to wait until on-road is launched, the reason for this is the extra development work that has to go in to creating the off-road tracks and various chassis. It is understood that rival brand ATS was close to a deal with the 2006 US National Champion for the Worlds but the Kyosho driver is understood to have been influenced by engine sponsor Sirio to run Matrix products thus ending ATS’s plans to recuit the American.
